BUILDING FRAGMENTS

Window Sill, Architrave and Ornamental Bay Leaf Swags - cont -

An Architrave is the lowest member of the entablature, usually consisting principally of one or more flat moldings called fasciae (singular, fascia). Each fascia projects slightly from the one below, and they are often capped by two or three moldings projecting slightly further. The architrave at Fiss, Doerr, & Carroll has two fasciae, the second ending in a congé, topped by a narrow fillet, a wider fillet, and another narrow fillet. Architraves also often frame window and door openings as they do here.
