Miller’s Harness Shop, East 24th Street, 1936
By the 1930s, most of the remaining stables that once formed the 24th Street horse market had been converted to garages. Several of the stables on the south side of 24th Street were demolished to make way for the Madison Square Post Office. By the end of the decade, the only remnants of the Bull’s Head Market were the H. Kauffman and Sons Saddlery Company and Miller’s Harness Shop. Kauffman’s sold riding gear at this location until 1991 and Miller’s continues to operate on East 24th Street, making it the sole survivor of the Bull’s Head Market.
