Bull’s Head Tavern, c.1906
View taken from 24th Street showing the side and rear facades of the Bull’s
Head Tavern shortly before its demolition. This building was constructed in
1827 at the northwest corner of Third Avenue and 24th Street. Here, it stood
at the center of the Bull’s Head Market that served as the main cattle and
later horse market for New York. The Bull’s Head Tavern was demolished around
1905-1906 and replaced with tenements that stood along Third Avenue until the
present high-rise apartment building was constructed in 1964.
