Advertisement for the Hotel Knickerbocker, c.1901
In the 1870s, Charles Braaf opened the Hotel Knickerbocker in a tenement building at the southwest corner of Third Avenue and 25th Street. The hotel included a bar and restaurant at street level and advertised itself to horse buyers doing business at the Bull’s Head Market. The building still stands directly behind this exhibit and still serves as a hotel at the time the exhibit was installed in 2004.
