View looking east on 23rd Street showing the Third Avenue elevated line that began operation in 1878. The building on the right, constructed as a bank, still stands on the southwest corner of 23rd Street and Third Avenue. The large building at the left was the New York Ophthalmic Hospital, which stood at the northeast corner of 23rd Street and Third Avenue.
